About this tour

This is a street food walk through the old centre of Naples, moving from a family pizzeria on Via dei Tribunali to a fry shop, a pastry counter and a historic caffè. You see a Margherita go into a wood-fired oven, pizza fritta lifted from hot oil, and sfogliatella riccia straight from the tray. Along the way the guide explains the caffè sospeso, the tradition of leaving a coffee paid forward for a stranger.

After the sound check, the walk moves counter to counter through the four stops, pausing for questions about each dish and its history. A list of the shops and what they make is sent once the call ends.

This suits anyone who plans a trip around food, or wants a taste of Naples street life without leaving home.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Naples before heading out.

  2. A pizzeria on Via dei Tribunali 21 min

Through the open doorway, the camera shows a family pizzaiolo sliding a Margherita into the wood-fired oven, while the guide explains what makes a true Neapolitan crust.

  3. A Naples fry shop 21 min

At the counter, the guide watches pizza fritta come out of the oil, the fried dough once sold on the street during the hungriest years after the war, alongside a cuoppo of fried seafood and a frittatina di pasta.

  4. A pastry counter 21 min

The camera follows trays of sfogliatella riccia coming out of the oven, and the guide explains the layers of paper-thin pastry that give it the name riccia, meaning curly.

  5. A historic caffè 21 min

At the counter, the guide explains the tradition of the caffè sospeso, an extra coffee paid for in advance and left for whoever needs one next.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Naples: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pizza margherita and Quartieri Spagnoli, worth a slower look.

  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
