About this tour

This session follows Vesterbro's food and drink scene, from a smørrebrød counter and a sourdough bakery to a herring and aquavit stop and a natural wine bar in the Meatpacking District. The camera watches each dish and drink prepared by people who make them for a living. The guide explains the traditions behind each stop, from the bread underneath the smørrebrød to the toast that goes with aquavit.

The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the route stop by stop through the evening, leaving time for questions about anything unfamiliar. A short list of the addresses and specialities follows by message once the call ends.

This suits anyone curious about Danish food beyond the pastry stereotype, whether planning a visit to Copenhagen or simply hungry for a look from home. It also works well around your own dinner.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Copenhagen before heading out.

  2. Smørrebrød counter 21 min

At a smørrebrød counter, a chef who spent years making them for a living assembles three kinds in front of the camera, and the guide explains what goes on the rye bread and in what order.

  3. Sourdough bakery 21 min

A sourdough bakery nearby bakes the dense rye bread that smørrebrød depends on, and the guide explains why the bread matters as much as what goes on top of it.

  4. Herring and aquavit stop 21 min

At a small bar, pickled herring and a glass of aquavit are set out the Danish way, and the guide explains the toast that traditionally goes with the first glass.

  5. Natural wine bar, Meatpacking District 21 min

The walk ends at a natural wine bar in the Meatpacking District, once a working slaughterhouse quarter, where the guide points out a cinnamon snail in a nearby bakery window, the pastry Danes actually eat over the tourist version.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Copenhagen: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Smørrebrød (open sandwiches) and Indre By, worth a slower look.

  • Times are shown in Copenhagen time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
