  • Zărnești gorge, on the edge of Piatra Craiului
  • A guide who once worked in mountain rescue

About this tour

This session visits the Libearty bear sanctuary in Zărnești, home to more than a hundred rescued bears, before finishing at the edge of Zărnești gorge. The camera moves along the visitor path past the oak forest enclosures where the bears live now, and the guide explains the restaurant cages many of them came from. It closes looking out at the gorge on the edge of Piatra Craiului.

After a sound check, the guide, who once worked in mountain rescue, walks the sanctuary path stop by stop, and questions are taken throughout the visit. A short list of what was seen and the bears' background is sent once the call ends.

This suits anyone interested in wildlife and conservation, or anyone drawn to the mountains around Brasov rather than its old town streets.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brasov before heading out.

  2. Libearty sanctuary 21 min

At the entrance to Libearty, home to more than a hundred rescued bears, the camera pans across the site, and the guide, a former mountain rescue worker, explains how the sanctuary began.

  3. Restaurant cage stories 21 min

Walking along the visitor path, the guide tells the story of bears once kept in small cages at roadside restaurants, and the camera shows the kind of enclosure they came from before rescue.

  4. Oak forest enclosures 21 min

Further along the path, the camera looks into the large oak forest enclosures where the bears live now, and the guide points out individual bears while explaining how much space each one has compared with before.

  5. Zărnești gorge 21 min

The walk ends at the edge of Zărnești gorge, on the boundary of Piatra Craiului, and the guide, drawing on years in mountain rescue, points out the rock faces rising above the valley.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Brasov: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Mici (grilled meat rolls) and Old Town (Cetate), worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
