About this tour

This session walks Sarajevo's old town through the lens of its four faiths, from the coppersmiths of Baščaršija to the courtyard of Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque. You see how mosque, church, cathedral and synagogue sit within a short walk of each other. It ends at the Latin Bridge and the 1914 assassination that started the First World War.

The guide checks sound in the bazaar, then walks between the religious sites in turn, explaining each community's history as the buildings come into view. Questions can come in about any faith, building or the events of 1914. A short list of the sites and their dates follows the call.

This suits anyone interested in how different faiths have shared one small city for centuries. It also suits history readers wanting to see the exact spot where the First World War began.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
