About this tour

This session climbs Castle Hill in old Buda by the steps rather than the usual route. The camera moves from Matthias Church and its tiled roof to the free terraces of Fisherman's Bastion, then along the Royal Palace terraces above the Danube and back through the medieval houses of Úri utca. It favours the quieter paths over the busy ones.

After a sound check, the walk climbs and then loops back down in the order above, with the guide taking questions about the route and the building history throughout. A short note on avoiding the busiest entry points goes out once the call ends.

This suits anyone planning to visit Castle Hill and wanting to skip the queues they have heard about, and anyone who enjoys older streets away from the main square. It also suits someone who has already seen the postcard view and wants the quieter version.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Budapest before heading out.

  2. Castle Hill steps and Matthias Church 21 min

The camera climbs Castle Hill by the old steps rather than the usual queue, arriving at Matthias Church and its roof of coloured tiles, which the guide reads like a map of the building's different rebuilds.

  3. Fisherman's Bastion 21 min

At Fisherman's Bastion, the camera stays on the free lower terraces, and the guide explains what the paid upper towers actually add to a view that is already this good.

  4. Royal Palace terraces and Úri utca 21 min

The walk ends on the Royal Palace terraces above the Danube, then back through Úri utca, where the camera passes medieval houses still standing behind much later facades.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Budapest: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Chimney cake (kürtőskalács) and Pest riverside, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Budapest time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
