About this tour

This session climbs from Town Hall Square up to Toompea, taking in the old pharmacy, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle, and a stretch of the medieval town wall on the way back down. The camera follows the same climb a visitor would make, ending at a platform over the red roofs. The guide explains what each building on the way has been used for over the centuries.

The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the climb and the wall walk stop by stop, with time for questions along the way. A short list of the sites and the viewing platforms follows by message once the call ends.

This suits anyone planning a first visit to Tallinn who wants an overview of the old town, as well as anyone simply curious about a well-preserved medieval city. It also works for anyone who likes a walk that ends with a view.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Tallinn before heading out.

  2. Town Hall Square 21 min

Town Hall Square holds one of the oldest continuously running pharmacies in Europe, and the guide points out its centuries-old shopfront before the walk starts climbing toward Toompea.

  3. Long Leg and Toompea 21 min

The Long Leg climbs up to Toompea hill, where the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral's onion domes sit across from Toompea Castle, now home to the Estonian parliament.

  4. Viewing platforms and town wall 21 min

From a viewing platform, the red roofs of the old town spread out below, and the walk finishes along a stretch of the medieval town wall, past several of its surviving towers.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Tallinn: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Black bread and Old Town (Vanalinn), worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Tallinn time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
