Qvevri wine and supper in our family marani
Highlights
- A family marani with seven qvevri
- Wine poured straight from the clay
- A home-cooked supper, laid out in the garden
- A tamada's toasts, explained in order
- The Alazani valley to the Caucasus, in view
About this tour
This session visits a family wine cellar in Sighnaghi, from the seven qvevri sunk into the marani floor to a home-cooked supper laid out in the garden. You see wine poured straight from the clay vessels, dishes explained one by one at the table, and the toasts a tamada leads through in their traditional order. Behind it all, the Alazani valley runs out towards the Caucasus.
The call opens with a sound check in the cellar, then moves outside as the family lays the table, with time to ask about the wine and the dishes as they appear. A short list of what was poured and served, along with the toasts explained, is sent afterwards.
This suits anyone curious about Georgian wine and hospitality beyond a restaurant table. It also suits those who cannot travel to Kakheti but want to see how a family evening here actually unfolds.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
