About this tour

This walk follows Shoreditch's street art through Great Eastern Street, Rivington Street and the old Truman Brewery, taking in work that changes month to month. You see large murals, small paste-ups and sculptures easy to miss, and pieces by artists the guide knows personally. It is one version of a wall that will look different again by the time you watch this back.

The session opens with a sound check, then moves street to street pointing out old favourites and anything new since the last walk. Questions come as you go, and a short list of the artists and streets follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone interested in street art as a living, changing thing rather than a fixed gallery. It also suits those who visited Shoreditch years ago and want to see how the walls have moved on.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of London before heading out.

  2. Great Eastern Street 21 min

On Great Eastern Street, the camera holds on a large mural covering the side of a building, the guide explaining who painted it and how long it has lasted before being painted over.

  3. Rivington Street 21 min

Down Rivington Street, the guide points out paste-ups and small sculptures fixed to walls and drainpipes that most people walk straight past.

  4. The Truman Brewery 21 min

Near the old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane and Old Street, the guide explains how a working brewery became one of the centres of London's street art scene.

  5. This month's new wall 21 min

At a wall the guide checks every few weeks, the camera shows whatever has gone up most recently, since this stretch changes faster than almost anywhere else in the city.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about London: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pie and mash and Shoreditch, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
