About this tour
This session reads Ljubljana through the work of architect Jože Plečnik, from the Triple Bridge to the market colonnade and the library façade, finishing at Trnovo church near his old house. It picks out the small details, lampposts, benches and stone pyramids, that carry his style through the city. It is a walk built around one person's mark on a small capital.
The call starts with a sound check, then moves through the three stops in the order Plečnik built them along the river, with questions welcome throughout. A short list of his other work around the city follows once the call ends.
This suits anyone interested in architecture or design history, or anyone who has walked Ljubljana without knowing one person shaped so much of it. It also works for architecture students following his work from elsewhere.

Standing at the Triple Bridge, the camera shows its three linked spans crossing the Ljubljanica, and the guide explains why Plečnik added the two side bridges to the original single crossing.
-

Along the riverside market colonnade, the camera moves under Plečnik's covered arcade toward the National and University Library, and the guide points out the library's rough stone and brick façade, one of his best known designs.
-
Trnovo church 21 min
Outside Trnovo church and the small house next to it where Plečnik lived and worked, the camera also picks out the lampposts, benches and stone pyramids scattered nearby, details the guide says most people walk straight past.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
