About this tour
This session walks Georgian Bath through the streets Jane Austen knew, from the west front of Bath Abbey to the curve of the Royal Crescent. You see the acorns and Masonic symbols carved into The Circus, the shopping street and Assembly Rooms of Milsom Street, and the ha-ha that keeps the Crescent's lawn open to the view. It follows roughly the route Austen herself would have walked between addresses.
The call begins with a sound check, then follows the streets uphill from the Abbey towards the Circus and the Crescent, stopping at each building the guide wants to point out. Questions come as you go, and a short list of the addresses and novels they appear in follows afterwards.
This suits readers of Jane Austen as much as anyone interested in Georgian architecture and town planning. It also suits those who visited Bath once and want to walk the same streets again from home.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bath before heading out.
-
Bath Abbey west front 21 min
The camera holds on the west front of Bath Abbey, where carved angels climb stone ladders towards the roofline, one of the details Jane Austen would have walked past on her way into town.
-
Milsom Street and the Assembly Rooms 21 min
The guide walks Milsom Street and up to the Assembly Rooms, the shopping street and ballrooms Jane Austen described in her novels, largely unchanged in scale even where the shopfronts have moved on.
-
The Circus 21 min
In The Circus, the camera turns slowly around the curved terrace, picking out the carved acorns on the roofline and the Masonic symbols worked into the stonework by the builders.
-
Royal Crescent 21 min
The walk ends at the Royal Crescent, its thirty houses curving in one unbroken sweep, with the guide pointing out the ha-ha, the sunken ditch that keeps the lawn free of a fence.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Bath: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bath bun and Georgian Bath, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
