About this tour

This session moves along the Decumani through the Sansevero Chapel, the cloister of Santa Chiara and the nativity workshops of San Gregorio Armeno. You hear about the Veiled Christ and the anatomical machines from outside the chapel, see the hand-painted tiles of the cloister, and pass the figure makers of San Gregorio Armeno. The route also points out the Pio Monte building that holds a Caravaggio painting along the way.

After the sound check, the guide walks the Decumani stop by stop, leaving room for questions at each church or workshop, and sends a short list of names and addresses once the call finishes.

This suits anyone interested in Naples's religious art and craft traditions, both the grand and the everyday kind.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Naples before heading out.

  2. Sansevero Chapel, from outside 21 min

Outside the small chapel, the guide describes the Veiled Christ carved in marble beneath its own drapery, and the anatomical machines in the crypt, along with the stories told about the prince who commissioned them.

  3. Santa Chiara's majolica cloister 21 min

In the open-air cloister, the camera takes in the hand-painted tiles covering the columns and benches, and the guide explains how the nuns had it redecorated in the eighteenth century.

  4. San Gregorio Armeno 21 min

Along the narrow street, the camera passes workshop after workshop of nativity figures, and the guide points out which makers still shape and paint each piece by hand, then mentions the Caravaggio held nearby at Pio Monte della Misericordia.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Naples: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Mozzarella di bufala and Quartieri Spagnoli, worth a slower look.

  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
