About this tour

This session mixes Brussels's comic strip murals with its old centre, from a Tintin mural on a stairwell to the rebuilt guild houses of the Grand Place. You see Manneken Pis and his costume collection and walk through the covered arcade of the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. It ends outside the Comic Strip Center, housed in a building by Victor Horta.

The guide checks sound at the first mural, then moves between comic art and historic architecture as the route allows. Questions can come in on the murals, the guild houses or Manneken Pis's costumes throughout. A short list of the murals and their locations is sent afterwards.

This suits comic strip readers as much as architecture fans, since the walk treats both as part of the same city. It also suits anyone planning a first visit wanting an easy overview of the old centre.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brussels before heading out.

  2. Comic strip murals 21 min

The camera follows a wall-sized mural of Tintin down a set of steps, one of dozens painted across the city centre. The guide points out Lucky Luke and Broussaille on nearby walls and explains how the trail began.

  3. Grand Place 21 min

On the Grand Place the camera turns slowly across the guild houses, rebuilt within a few years after a French bombardment destroyed the square in 1695. The guide explains how the guilds competed to rebuild the grandest facade.

  4. Manneken Pis and the arcades 21 min

The camera finds Manneken Pis, the small bronze statue with a wardrobe of around a thousand costumes kept for it. The guide walks into the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, a covered arcade from 1847, and points out the Comic Strip Center building by Horta from outside.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Brussels: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Chocolate pralines and Marolles, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
