About this tour

This is a food walk through Milan's kitchen classics, covering a trattoria that has made cotoletta the same way since 1933, a panzerotti counter behind the Duomo, an old-style osteria and a bakery that bakes panettone all year. You see risotto alla milanese being finished with saffron and marrow, and the older snacks nervetti and mondeghili that have mostly dropped off modern menus. The route strings together four small stops rather than one long market.

The call opens with a sound check, then follows the four stops in order, pausing at each kitchen or counter for questions about the dishes. A shortlist of the addresses and dishes shown follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who plans their trips around food, or wants a closer look at Milanese cooking without leaving home.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Milan before heading out.

  2. A trattoria since 1933 21 min

Through the kitchen door of a trattoria unchanged for decades, the camera shows the cotoletta being breaded and fried, and separately the risotto alla milanese, coloured with saffron and finished with bone marrow.

  3. A panzerotti shop behind the Duomo 21 min

At a small counter just behind the cathedral, the guide watches the fryer at work and explains how panzerotti differ from the fried pastries found further south.

  4. An old Milanese osteria 21 min

Inside a bar that still serves nervetti and mondeghili, the guide explains what these older Milanese snacks are made from and why they have mostly disappeared from newer menus.

  5. A year-round panettone bakery 21 min

In a bakery that bakes panettone through every season, not only at Christmas, the guide watches the dough proof and explains what separates a slow-made panettone from a mass-produced one.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Milan: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Risotto alla milanese and Navigli, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
