About this tour

This session moves through Lisbon's nightlife from Pink Street to Bairro Alto, guided by someone who once ran a bar in this same stretch of the city. The guide explains petiscos culture, the street-drinking habits of Bairro Alto, and finishes at a viewpoint above the rooftops. It is an insider's route through Lisbon after dark rather than a list of bars.

The call opens with a sound check, then follows the four stops as the evening builds, with stories from behind the bar mixed in with the walk. Questions are welcome throughout, and a short list of bars worth knowing follows once the call ends.

This suits anyone who wants Lisbon's nightlife explained by someone who worked in it, whether planning a trip or not. It also suits anyone who prefers a night out with some history attached.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lisbon before heading out.

  2. Pink Street 21 min

The camera walks Rua Nova do Carvalho, known as Pink Street for its painted road surface, and the guide explains how this row of old sailors' bars turned into one of the city's busiest nightlife strips.

  3. Petiscos stop 21 min

At a small bar serving petiscos, the guide points out a spread of small plates and a bottle of cold vinho verde, and explains how this style of eating shaped Lisbon's bar culture.

  4. The bar the guide used to run 21 min

Outside a bar the guide once ran, the camera takes in the room while the guide tells a few stories from behind that same counter, explaining what has changed since.

  5. Bairro Alto and a viewpoint 21 min

Climbing into Bairro Alto, the guide explains how locals drink standing in the street rather than inside the bars themselves, finishing at a viewpoint above the rooftops with a small glass of ginjinha.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Lisbon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bifana and Belém, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
