About this tour

This session follows a Tyrolean food evening through the old town, from a centuries-old inn to a speck and cheese counter and a small bar pouring Zillertal schnapps. You see the dishes as they are cooked and served to other diners. Each stop centres on one Tyrolean speciality explained by someone who works with it daily.

The call opens with a sound check before the guide steps into the first inn. From there you move counter to counter, with time to ask about ingredients, prices or how each dish is made. A shortlist of the places visited is sent on afterwards.

This suits anyone curious about Tyrolean food before ordering it themselves, or who wants a sense of an old town evening without leaving home. It also works for planning exactly where to eat on a future visit.

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Innsbruck before heading out.

  2. A centuries-old inn 21 min

The camera goes inside a Tyrolean inn that has served the old town for generations, its wood panelling dark with age. The guide explains Tiroler Gröstl, the fried potato and beef dish on tables around you.

  3. Speck and cheese counter 21 min

At a small deli counter the camera follows rounds of mountain cheese and hanging legs of speck being sliced for customers. The guide explains how the cheese is aged in nearby alpine huts before it reaches the shop.

  4. Zillertal schnapps corner 21 min

The last stop is a narrow bar pouring schnapps distilled in the Zillertal valley. The guide talks through the fruit brandies lined up on the shelf, then explains Kaiserschmarrn, the shredded pancake usually ordered right after.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Innsbruck: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Speckknödel and Altstadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
