About this tour

This session moves through Zagreb's Upper Town and Dolac market with a librarian as guide. The camera follows the market stalls, the candlelit Stone Gate shrine, and St Mark's Church with its tiled roof of coats of arms, before ending at the cathedral and a coffee stop on Tkalčićeva. It mixes daily market life with the older stone of the Upper Town.

After the sound check, the walk climbs from the market up into the Upper Town in the order above, with the guide taking questions about the buildings and their repairs as they come up. A short reading list from the guide's own shelves follows the call.

This suits anyone with an interest in Zagreb's older streets told with a librarian's attention to detail, and anyone who wants the market alongside the monuments rather than one without the other. It also suits someone deciding what to see first on an actual visit.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Zagreb before heading out.

  2. Dolac market 21 min

The camera moves above the main open-air market, where stallholders known for their red headscarves have sold produce here for generations, just above the city's central square.

  3. Stone Gate and St Mark's 21 min

Inside the old Stone Gate shrine, the camera holds on rows of candles kept burning by visitors, before climbing to St Mark's Church and its roof tiled with the coats of arms of Croatia and Zagreb.

  4. Cathedral and Tkalčićeva 21 min

The camera takes in the cathedral's twin spires, still under repair after the earthquake, then follows the walk down to Tkalčićeva for a coffee among the café tables.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Zagreb: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Štrukli and Upper Town, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
