Richmond Park deer and the Thames path
Highlights
- Red and fallow deer, up close
- King Henry's Mound and the St Paul's sightline
- Pembroke Lodge gardens
- Petersham Meadows along the Thames path
- The Richmond Hill view Turner painted
About this tour
This walk crosses Richmond Park and down to the Thames, from the deer herds and King Henry's Mound to Petersham Meadows and Richmond Hill. You see the protected sightline from the Mound straight to St Paul's, the gardens at Pembroke Lodge, and the river view that Turner once painted from this bank. It moves from open parkland to the water's edge without leaving green space for long.
The call opens with a sound check, then follows the park's paths downhill towards the river at a relaxed pace, stopping wherever the deer or the view ask for it. Questions come along the way, and a short list of the viewpoints and paths follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone who prefers London's wilder edges to its centre, and anyone curious about deer living wild inside a capital city. It also suits those who know the paintings and want to see the view itself.

At King Henry's Mound, the guide lines up the protected view straight through to St Paul's dome, kilometres away across the city, one of the few sightlines in London kept clear by law.

The walk drops down through Pembroke Lodge's gardens to Petersham Meadows, then follows the Thames path towards Richmond Hill, the same view Turner once painted from this bank.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
