About this tour

This session is a night walk between four of Rome's most lit-up spots, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. You see each one without the daytime crowds, from the uplit columns of the Pantheon to Bernini's fountain at the centre of the square. The route is timed for late evening, after most day visitors have gone home.

After the sound check, the guide walks between the four points in order, pausing at each one for questions about how the lighting or the crowds change after dark. A short list of the route and timings is sent once the call ends.

This suits night owls and anyone planning a late evening of their own in Rome.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rome before heading out.

  2. The Spanish Steps at night 21 min

With the daytime crowds gone, the camera shows the full run of the eighteenth-century staircase lit from below, and the guide explains why the steps look so different after dark.

  3. Trevi Fountain after ten 21 min

Later in the evening, the guide points out how much quieter the fountain gets, with the carved sea horses and Neptune lit against the dark water.

  4. The Pantheon at night 21 min

Standing before the temple, the guide shows how the uplighting changes the columns and pediment after dark, and explains what makes the dome's concrete unusual almost two thousand years on.

  5. Piazza Navona 21 min

Walking between the square's three fountains, the guide points out Bernini's fountain at the centre, before finishing at a gelato shop that stays open until one in the morning.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Rome: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Carbonara and Testaccio, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
