I trained as an architect before I started guiding, so I notice carved stonework that most people walk straight past without a glance. On camera I stop first at the Renieri Gate, pointing out the coat of arms carved above the old doorway, then follow the line of the Schiavo Bastion along the surviving stretch of Venetian walls. I explain how the bastion's angled shape was designed specifically to defend against cannon fire rather than simple assault. From its highest point you get a clear view back over the old town's rooftops. I keep a slow, careful pace so the details actually register on screen.
