Along the Schiavo Bastion
Highlights
- A bastion angled against cannon fire
- Venetian military engineering
- Old town rooftops from above
- Walls that once fully enclosed the town
- An architect's own explanation
About this tour
This session follows the angled line of the Schiavo Bastion, part of the surviving Venetian walls, up to a rooftop view over the old town. You see how the bastion's specific shape was engineered against cannon fire rather than simple assault, explained by a trained architect. It stays on the public wall walk throughout.
I walk the angle of the bastion slowly, explaining the engineering behind its shape before reaching the viewpoint at its highest section. Questions about military architecture are always welcome.
This suits anyone interested in fortification design or old town views. It also pairs well with the Renieri Gate session for a fuller picture of Venetian building here.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
