I trained as a historian before I ever thought about guiding, and Naples's two castles are still what I know best, down to the difference in stone between the parts Frederick II built and what came later under the Aragonese. On camera at Castel dell'Ovo I like standing where the causeway meets the rock, since the castle's whole point was always the site rather than the building itself. At Certosa di San Martino I hold on the view over the bay for longer than most guides would, because the position explains more about the city than the monastery's rooms ever could.
