Highlights

  • A quiet cloister above a busy city
  • A view that builds gradually on the climb
  • Calm deliberately built above the noise below

About this tour

This session climbs to Certosa di San Martino, a former monastery on the hill above Naples with one of the widest views over the bay. You see the city open up gradually on the way up, the full sweep of the bay from the terrace, and finally the quiet cloister inside. It links the city below to the calm the monastery was built to offer.

I climb at an easy pace and hold on the view as it changes, then move into the cloister for a contrast in atmosphere. I take questions throughout and send a short note afterwards with the site's history.

This suits anyone who wants an overview of Naples before or after exploring the old centre. It also works well on a clear day, when Vesuvius is visible across the water.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Naples before heading out.

  2. The hilltop approach 17 min

You see the old monastery come into view as the path climbs, with the city spreading out further below at every turn.

  3. The terrace over the bay 17 min

From the terrace I hold on the full sweep of the bay, with Vesuvius visible across the water on a clear day.

  4. The monastery courtyard 17 min

I show the quiet cloister inside, a contrast to the busy city visible just beyond its walls.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Naples: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sfogliatella and Chiaia, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
