I grew up walking the Murgia plateau with my father, who kept sheep on land that has barely changed in generations, and I still know which paths give the clearest line back across the ravine to the Sassi. On a call I describe the rock churches cut into the far cliffs and answer questions on how shepherds and monks once shared this ground. Indoors, I like showing a cave house kept exactly as a family left it in the 1950s, one room for people and animals both, because it explains the Sassi better than any view from above ever could.
