About this tour

This call plans a walk along the Murgia ridge opposite Matera, the plateau where I grew up following my father and his sheep. We talk through the paths that give the clearest view back over the ravine to the Sassi, and I check which of the rock-cut churches you most want to know about. It works as preparation rather than a live walk itself.

We talk over Google Meet while I stand on the ridge with my phone, sharing the view as we plan. I answer questions on the shepherd paths and the churches throughout, and send a short list afterwards with names and directions.

This suits anyone planning their own walk on the Murgia and wanting local advice first. It also works for viewers who want to understand the landscape before booking a session inside the Sassi.

Itinerary

  1. Hello, and what you want to know 5 min

The guide calls you and asks what you are after: planning Matera, recommendations, or just questions.

  2. Planning the route 15 min

We talk through which part of the Murgia ridge gives the clearest line back to the Sassi, and I check what you most want to see of the rock churches opposite.

  3. What you leave with 15 min

I send a short list of the paths and viewpoints we discussed, along with the names of the rock churches visible from the ridge, so you have them for a later visit.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Ask anything that is still on your mind, there is no fixed script.

  5. A written note after the call 3 min

You get a short follow-up message with everything mentioned, so you do not have to remember it all.

  • The call is not recorded. Keep your own note of anything you want to remember, or wait for the follow-up message.
  • Have your questions ready, though there is time to think of more as you go.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
