Astrid Nesheim

I grew up in Bergen and worked summers as a student guide inside the Hanseatic Museum before I ever thought about doing this on video. My main session follows Bryggen's row of wooden merchant houses, explaining how the colourful facades lean at odd angles after centuries of fires and rebuilding. A second session stays at the Hanseatic Museum and the old assembly rooms behind it, where German merchants once lived apart from the rest of the town. On camera I try to let the buildings' age show through small details, a crooked doorframe or a worn step, rather than reciting dates.
