Bryggen's wharf, house by house

- Bryggen's whole row in one frame

About this tour
This session walks Bryggen, Bergen's row of colourful wooden merchant houses on the harbour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You see the leaning facades up close, one of the narrow passageways behind them, and the full wharf from the open quay. Astrid explains how fire and rebuilding shaped the row's uneven line over the centuries.
She moves slowly along the front first, then ducks into a passageway to show how the buildings actually worked as warehouses. Questions about specific fires or the Hanseatic merchants who lived here come up regularly, and she answers them as the buildings pass by.
This suits anyone visiting Bergen for the first time and wanting its best-known sight explained properly. It also pairs with Astrid's second session at the Hanseatic Museum just behind the wharf.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bergen before heading out.
-
Wharf facades 17 min
The camera moves along Bryggen's row of wooden merchant houses, each front leaning slightly out of line after centuries of fire, rebuilding and the settling ground beneath them.
-
Narrow passageways 17 min
Ducking into one of the narrow passages between buildings, you see how goods once moved between the harbour and the storage lofts above, unchanged since the Hanseatic League ran the wharf.
-
Bryggen from the quay 17 min
From the open quay you get the whole row in one frame, and I explain why UNESCO listed Bryggen as a World Heritage Site despite the fires that have destroyed parts of it more than once.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Bergen: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Brown cheese (brunost) and Bryggen, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
