I have worked around the port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia since I left school, first bottling and now guiding, so I know these buildings from the inside out. On camera I stay in the courtyards and along the riverside quay, describing what happens inside the ageing cellars rather than filming the barrels directly, since access varies by house. I explain the difference between tawny and vintage styles in plain terms, without assuming anyone already knows the vocabulary. I keep the phone steady at the quay's edge so you get the cellars' painted names lined up across the water. I answer questions about the wine honestly, including my own preferences.
