About this tour
This session follows the port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia from the riverside quay, taking in the painted names of the houses lining the waterfront. Beatriz explains which houses remain family-owned and which have been bought by larger groups over the decades. A cellar courtyard gives a closer look at how the barrels are stored before the ageing rooms themselves.
Beatriz keeps a steady pace along the quay, checking the picture holds on the painted signage across the water. She explains the ageing process in plain terms, without assuming prior knowledge of port wine. A short note on visiting a cellar for yourself follows the call.
This suits a first session on Porto's wine trade for anyone unfamiliar with the different houses and styles. It also works well before a more detailed tasting-focused call.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
