Bram de Wit

I have lived on the Oudegracht for twenty-six years, in a house with a wharf cellar under the street that floods about once a decade. Before guiding I was a conservator at the Centraal Museum, working on furniture and on the Rietveld collection, and design and old buildings are still what I talk about most. Utrecht is smaller than Amsterdam and people often come for a day and see only the Dom Tower. I try to show them the rest: the medieval canal with its two levels, the convent gardens, the work of Gerrit Rietveld, and the quiet streets where students have been cycling since 1636. I speak Dutch, English and German. My tours are calm and exact, and I am happy to explain things twice. I also know which cafés on the wharves are worth sitting in. From Utrecht, I now guide on live video with my phone, and the chat stays open for your questions the whole time.
