I have worked on Rua de Santa Catarina for over a decade, first in a shop and now guiding, so I know the street's rhythm better than its landmarks alone. On camera I follow the full length of the street, pointing out which shopfronts are original Art Nouveau and which are modern insertions. I stop outside the Majestic café, one of the most photographed in Portugal, and explain its history without needing to film the interior. I keep the phone at a steady walking pace throughout, since the street itself is the point rather than any single building. I answer questions about the shops as readily as the architecture.
