About this tour

This session follows the full length of Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto's main shopping streets, starting with a row of Art Nouveau storefronts many visitors walk past without noticing. Bruno points out which businesses kept their original tiled and carved details and which covered them with modern signage. Further along, the street's newer international shops sit beside older family businesses.

Bruno keeps a steady walking pace along the street's full length, since he has worked here for over a decade and knows exactly where to slow down. He answers questions about specific shops as readily as about the street's architecture. A short note on the street's history follows the session.

This suits anyone who wants Porto's everyday commercial life alongside its architecture. It also works well as an introduction to the modern city centre for a first-time visitor.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Porto before heading out.

  2. The Art Nouveau storefronts 21 min

The camera holds on a row of early 20th-century shopfronts, their tiled and carved details often hidden behind modern signage. Bruno points out which businesses kept the original features and which covered them over.

  3. The street's modern stretch 21 min

Further along, newer international shops sit beside older family businesses. Bruno explains how the street's character has shifted over the decades he has worked here.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Porto: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Port wine and Ribeira, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
