I have prayed at the Omeriye Mosque for years, in a building that started as a Gothic-era church centuries before it became a mosque under Ottoman rule. On camera I walk its exterior first, explaining that layered history, then continue to the nearby Hamam Omerye, a restored Ottoman bathhouse now used as a cultural venue for exhibitions and events. I keep my voice low and my filming respectful whenever prayer is underway. I like showing how two neighbouring buildings can each carry such different, overlapping histories.
