My family has lived on Karaimų gatvė for five generations, in one of the wooden houses built with the traditional three windows facing the street. I like showing the camera how the middle window sits slightly apart from the other two, a detail most visitors walk straight past. On the kibinai call I stand in my aunt's bakery and explain how the dough is folded, a method her mother taught her. I studied ethnography in Vilnius and now spend most of my time telling people about Trakai's Karaite community, a small Turkic-speaking group that has called this town home since the fourteenth century. I keep my sessions unhurried and personal.
