My grandmother had a stall at the Mercado Municipal for over twenty years, so I spent a good part of my childhood among the fish counters and fruit crates before I ever thought about guiding. On a video session I go early, while the boats are still unloading, and let the stallholders answer your questions rather than sticking to a script of my own. From the market I usually walk down to the marina and garden, showing how the waterfront changed once the old harbour became a place for boats rather than only work. I still shop at the same stalls most weeks.
