I worked in theatre production on Gran Vía for a decade before I started guiding, so I know which facades hide the oldest stages and which have been rebuilt behind a preserved front. On camera I walk slowly enough that you can actually read the building details above the shopfronts, since most people never look up on this street. I live in Malasaña now and split my sessions between the two, the grand avenue and the narrower streets just behind it. I answer questions about the theatres in more detail than almost anyone asks for, which I like to think is a feature rather than a flaw.
