Filipe Guerreiro

I grew up in Luz, a few kilometres west of Lagos, and I have been in the water around Ponta da Piedade since I was old enough to hold a paddle. I worked as a lifeguard for eight summers, then as a kayak instructor, and now I run my own small trips. The grottoes and rock arches here are famous, and in August the bay is full of boats, so I go early and I know which caves you can enter at which tide. On land I lead the Seven Hanging Valleys trail near Benagil, which I walk every week out of season just for myself. I speak Portuguese, English and German, the last one thanks to twelve summers of German visitors. The Algarve sun is not a joke. These days I guide Lagos live on video: I walk the streets with my phone and answer your questions as we go.
