Coppergate sits on top of a Viking-age settlement excavated decades ago, and I run my calls from street level, explaining what was actually found underneath before the museum was ever built. I studied archaeology locally and worked on a couple of digs before guiding became my main work. I like pointing out where the street layout still follows the Viking-age plan rather than a later one. I keep the facts specific rather than repeating vague claims about the period.
