Ioana Dumitrescu

I love Obor market more than any museum in this city, and I say that as someone with a degree in art history. On a Saturday morning it is full of people from the villages around Bucharest selling cheese in fir bark, pickled green tomatoes, smoked bacon and huge bunches of dill, and the mici grill in the old market hall runs from breakfast. My food walk starts there and ends with sarmale, papanași and a glass of fetească neagră. I also walk the quieter part of town, the villas and interwar blocks between Calea Victoriei and Dorobanți that gave Bucharest the Little Paris nickname, many of them half ruined and slowly being restored. I lived in Bologna for two years, so I speak Italian and I have strong opinions about pasta that I will keep to myself. Everything I do is now live on video: I walk Bucharest with my phone, and you can ask me anything as we go.
