About this tour

This session walks the part of Bucharest once called Little Paris, from the Romanian Athenaeum to the interwar buildings of Calea Victoriei and the villas of Dorobanți and Kiseleff. The camera takes in the Athenaeum's dome, picks out façade after façade along Calea Victoriei, and finishes among art deco blocks from the 1930s. It follows the streets that earned Bucharest its old nickname.

After a sound check, the guide walks the route building by building, explaining the history behind each one and who is restoring it today, with questions taken throughout. A short list of the buildings named is sent once the call ends.

This suits anyone interested in architecture and interwar history, whether planning a visit to Bucharest or simply curious about its grander side.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bucharest before heading out.

  2. The Romanian Athenaeum 21 min

From the street outside, the camera takes in the domed façade of the Romanian Athenaeum next to the Carol I University Library, and the guide explains how the two buildings anchor this part of the city.

  3. Calea Victoriei 21 min

Walking along Calea Victoriei, the camera picks out interwar façades one by one, and the guide explains how this street became the address for Bucharest's grandest buildings between the wars.

  4. Dorobanți villas and art deco blocks 21 min

In Dorobanți and around Kiseleff, the camera passes old villas alongside art deco blocks from the 1930s, and the guide points out which buildings are being restored slowly by their current owners.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Bucharest: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sarmale and Cotroceni, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Bucharest time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
