I spend most of my working week inside the basement halls of Diocletian's Palace, which still surprises people who assume the whole palace sits above ground. On camera I like starting down there in the cool stone rooms before climbing up to the Peristyle, since the contrast between the two levels tells you more about how the palace actually worked. Ten years of guiding here means I have my favourite corners memorised, though I still change the route depending on what people ask about. I keep the phone steady on the stonework and let questions set the pace rather than a fixed script.
