I cross the Hohenzollern Bridge most mornings, so I know roughly how many padlocks get added in a given month just from watching the railings change. My sessions there explain why the bridge became a place for couples to leave a lock behind, and I hold the frame on a few older, rusted ones next to newer bright ones to show how long the tradition has run. I usually continue onto the Rhine promenade from there, since the walk connects naturally and gives a second angle on the cathedral towers behind us.
