I have spent half my life along the Motława, first as a boat mechanic and later as a guide, so I know the river better than most of the streets around it. On camera I like to hold on the old crane a moment longer than most guides do, since it once lifted masts and cargo higher than anything else on this coast. On Mariacka Street I point the camera up rather than down, because the carved gargoyles on the rooftops usually get missed. I studied conservation in Gdansk and I am comfortable going deep into one small detail rather than rushing a whole street.
