About this tour

This short call explains St Dominic's Fair, a trading event that has run in Gdansk nearly every August since the thirteenth century. You see old posters and photographs rather than a live walk, and I explain how the fair has changed from a medieval market into today's street event. It fills in a tradition that easily gets overlooked.

I start with a brief introduction to how the fair began, then go through a handful of photographs from different decades, explaining what changed and what stayed the same. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short reading list afterwards.

This suits anyone interested in long-running European traditions or Gdansk's trading history. It also works as a short call before visiting the city during the fair itself.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
