Mariam Lortkipanidze

I trained as a museum guide before I ever thought about a camera, so the gold room at the Kutaisi State Historical Museum is where I am most comfortable filming. On a call I keep the phone close on individual pieces rather than sweeping across a whole case, since the detail in ancient goldwork is easy to lose on a screen. I also show the old theatre and synagogue nearby, a quieter side of the city most visitors miss entirely. I like to slow right down at whichever stop raises the most questions rather than sticking to a fixed pace.
