About this tour

This walk covers two sides of nineteenth-century Kutaisi: Georgia's oldest working theatre and the synagogue of one of the country's oldest Jewish communities. You see the theatre's restored facade first, then the synagogue a short distance away. It traces a quieter, less visited layer of the city's history.

We start at the theatre, giving its facade time to read on camera, then walk the short distance to the synagogue. I explain the history of each from outside, and questions work well at either stop.

It suits anyone curious about Kutaisi beyond its monasteries and gold, and travellers interested in Georgia's Jewish history.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Kutaisi before heading out.

  2. Meskhishvili Theatre facade 21 min

The camera looks up at Georgia's oldest working theatre, opened in 1861, and I point out the details of its restored facade.

  3. The nineteenth-century synagogue 21 min

We walk a short distance to the synagogue serving one of Georgia's oldest Jewish communities, and I explain its place in Kutaisi's history from outside.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Kutaisi: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Churchkhela and Ukimerioni Hill, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • Times are shown in Tbilisi time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
