I grew up in Halepa, in one of the neoclassical houses built when this quarter was the fashionable edge of town rather than a quiet residential street. On camera I walk past the old mansions and the former royal residence grounds, explaining how European consuls and a prince once lived along these same streets in the nineteenth century. The architecture here looks nothing like the Venetian old town closer to the harbour, and I like explaining why the two neighbourhoods grew so differently. I keep my calls relaxed, since Halepa itself has always moved at a slower pace than the centre.
