I have guided in Rothenburg for five years, mostly around the walls and the eastern gates, and the Rödertor is still the spot I bring people to first because you can read three centuries of repair in its stonework. On camera I try to move the way a resident would on an ordinary evening, cutting between the wall walk and the quieter lanes behind Kirchplatz rather than only visiting the obvious corners. I studied local history before I started guiding, and I like folding a short story into each stop instead of a long lecture. Video suits this well, since one shot along the ramparts says more than words.
