About this tour
This session walks the walls from the Rödertor in the east to the Spitalbastei at the southern tip of the old town. You see the repaired brickwork on the Rödertor where wartime shelling left its mark, still visible today. The route ends at the largest bastion in the circuit, built with a looping approach to slow any attacker.
I open with a short sound check at the Rödertor before we start walking. The two stops sit some distance apart, so I talk through the wall's history as we cover the ground between them and pause fully at each gate for questions. A short list of dates and repairs follows afterwards.
This suits anyone interested in how a medieval defence system actually worked rather than just its appearance. It also gives useful context before a session inside the town's crime and justice museum.

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rothenburg ob der Tauber before heading out.
-
Rödertor 21 min
You see the fortified gate tower at the eastern edge of town, and I point out the repaired brickwork where American shelling damaged it in the last days of the Second World War.
-
Spitalbastei 21 min
The camera reaches the largest bastion in the whole circuit, and I explain how its looping design was built to slow any attacker long before they reached the actual gate.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Rothenburg ob der Tauber: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kartoffelsuppe (potato soup) and Klingenviertel, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
