Merle Ohlsen

Hi, I am Merle. I moved to Hamburg from a small town in Nordfriesland at nineteen to study music at the HAW, and within a week I was working behind the bar of a club on the Reeperbahn. Five years of night shifts later I know St. Pauli better than my own family. I still play bass in a punk band that has released exactly one record, and I run the tours I would want to go on myself: the Beatles years in Hamburg, the clubs and bars of St. Pauli, and the food in the Schanze where I live. I spent a summer in Gothenburg working on a ferry, which is why I can order in Swedish. If you are nervous about the Reeperbahn, you do not need to be. It is loud, not dangerous, and I know everyone. These days you can join me from anywhere: I walk Hamburg live with my phone and answer questions on the spot.
