About this tour
This session follows the Beatles' Hamburg years, from the Indra and Kaiserkeller clubs where they built their first residencies to the Bambi Kino where they slept, Jäger-Passage where they were first photographed, and the site of the Star-Club on Große Freiheit. The camera visits each address as it stands today, long after the venues closed. The guide fills in what is no longer there with stories from people who saw it firsthand.
The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the band's own route through the district address by address, with room for questions throughout. A short list of the venues and their history follows by message once the call ends.
This suits anyone interested in the Beatles' early years or in Hamburg's music history more broadly, whether planning a visit or simply curious from home. It also works for anyone who already knows the Liverpool side of the story and wants the other half.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Hamburg before heading out.
-
Indra club 21 min
The Indra club on Große Freiheit was where the Beatles played their first Hamburg residency in 1960, and the guide explains what a nightly set looked like for a band nobody yet knew.
-
Kaiserkeller and Bambi Kino 21 min
A short walk away, the Kaiserkeller hosted their next residency, and next door the old Bambi Kino cinema is where the band actually slept during those first visits, above the screen they were paid to watch.
-
Jäger-Passage courtyard 21 min
Jäger-Passage, a plain courtyard passage, is where photographer Astrid Kirchherr took some of the band's earliest portraits, and the guide explains how those photos shaped their image before they were famous.
-
Star-Club site 21 min
The walk ends at the site of the Star-Club on Große Freiheit, long since gone, where the guide shares stories passed down from people who were actually there to see the band play.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Hamburg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rote Grütze (red berry pudding) and Speicherstadt / HafenCity, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
